GSP TYING THREAD
Wifreo GSP High-Strength Tying Thread
GSP (Gel-spun polyethylene), also known as Power Thread or Nano Silk, is renowned for its incredible strength, with some data indicating it's over 10 times stronger than steel of the same diameter. GSP tying thread is now widely adopted by fly tyers globally, easily handling everything from oversized saltwater streamers to the tiniest dry flies. Both professional commercial tyers and beginners alike will no longer be frustrated by frequent thread breakage.
Wifreo's GSP tying thread features a slight twist to prevent fraying, a flat filament bundle, a rich variety of colors and sizes, and a wide range of applications. Our standard spool length is 100m, offering exceptional value while ensuring premium quality.
Usage Tips & Tricks:
- Ceramic Bobbin Recommended: Regardless of the brand of GSP thread you use, we highly recommend using a ceramic bobbin. Any small burrs inside a brass or steel bobbin tube can damage the thread or cause it to split. We also recommend Wifreo's new high-hardness alloy, finely polished bobbins, which offer smooth thread delivery and comfortable handling.
- Use with Tying Wax: GSP thread, whether Wifreo's or other brands, tends to be quite slick. Using tying wax in conjunction with the thread will increase friction and help prevent slippage during tying.
- Use a Razor Blade for Cutting: Due to GSP's extreme strength, it can easily damage ordinary thread scissors or delicate fiber scissors. We recommend using a razor blade or specialized tungsten carbide high-hardness blade scissors for cutting.
- Coloring: Wifreo offers a wide selection of colors. Additionally, you can use permanent markers to color white GSP thread, allowing you to create even more custom shades. We suggest sealing the colored thread with UV resin after application to maintain the color effect.
- Splitting the Thread: Wifreo's tying thread has a slight twist. You can easily split the filament bundle with a bodkin for tying techniques that require it. If the bundle is too tightly twisted to split, try rotating your bobbin counter-clockwise to flatten the thread before attempting to split it.
- Dubbing Loops: GSP is exceptionally well-suited for dubbing loop operations. Splitting the thread with a bodkin to create a loop for dubbing materials or other elements is an excellent choice.
